エゼキエル書１章
『主の栄光』 今日から、バビロンに亡命して生きた祭司エゼキエルの預言を読みます。これまで、ほとんどの預言者は神の言葉を通して預言を受けました。エゼキエルの預言は、むしろ幻を通してもたらされたユニークなものである。
エゼキエルの最初の幻は、4節から28節にかけて、天が開かれるように見えるという内容で記録されている。エゼキエルは、自分が見たものを詳しく描写している。
「私が見ていると、見よ、激しい風が北からやって来た。それは大きな雲と、きらめき渡る火を伴い、その周りには輝きがあった。その火の中央からは琥珀のようなきらめきが出ていた。その中に生きもののようなものが四つ現れ、その姿は次のようであった。彼らは人間のような姿をしていたが、」（エゼキエル1:4-5, 新改訳2017）
エゼキエルは続けて、自分が見た天の生き物などを詳しく描写しています。その上に、人間に似た者がいて、玉座のようなものの上に座っていた（エゼキエル1:26）。しかし、人間とは違って、この人間に似た人は、腰のようなところに火を持ち、周囲に輝きを放っていた（エゼキエル1:28）。エゼキエルは、自分が見たことを説明しています。
「その方の周りにある輝きは、雨の日の雲の間にある虹のようであり、まさに主の栄光の姿のようであった。私はこれを見て、ひれ伏した。そのとき、私は語る者の声を聞いた。」（エゼキエル1:28, 新改訳2017）。 天が開かれ、エゼキエルは天と主の栄光を垣間見ることができました。神の栄光を見た彼の反応は、顔を伏せて神の語りかけを聞くことだった。現代に生きる私たちの多くは、聖書を読んで、その物語が過去のものに過ぎないと思っている。現代人の中には、これらを作り話のように捉える人もいます。ある人は、これらの記述を、神は過去にこうであったと考え、もうこういうことは起きないと思って見ています。
私たちの多くは、もはや霊的な世界を認めない家庭で育ち、学校で教えられています。世俗的な世界では、見たり、触ったり、感じたり、操作したりできるものだけが実在すると教えられています。しかし、聖書はすべて霊的な真理について述べています。
パウロはエペソ6:12で、「私たちの格闘は血肉に対するものではなく、支配、力、この暗闇の世界の支配者たち、また天上にいるもろもろの悪霊に対するものです。」と宣言しています。しかし、悪魔は、私たちの戦いが人間に対するものであると信じ込ませようと懸命に働いてきた。悪魔は、霊的なものは実在しないと私たちに信じ込ませようと懸命に働いてきました。残念ながら、悪魔は多くの成功を享受してきました。これは変えなければなりません。
父なる神、御子イエス・キリスト、そして聖霊は、この宇宙の他のどんな現実よりも現実的な存在です。すべてが存在するのは、御霊である神がすべてを創造されたからです。私たちは神を見ることはできませんが、神は私たちが立っている地球よりも現実的な存在です。
私たちが御言葉を読んで神の栄光を体験するとき、エゼキエルのような反応をするのが自然でしょう。私たちは顔を伏せて耳を傾けるのです。 父なる神様、本日の御言葉を感謝します。あなたは宇宙の創造主であり、存在するもの、そしてこれまでに存在したものはすべて、あなたが創造されたからです。私たちはあなたを見ることはできませんが、あなたが創造した宇宙の中で、あなたより実在するものはありません。残念ながら、罪と悪魔と世の中のやり方が私たちを堕落させ、私たちの周りの霊的な現実を見ることができなくなりました。

Today we begin to read the prophesies of the priest Ezekiel who lived in exile in Babylon. Up until now, most prophets received prophecies through God’s Word. Ezekiel’s prophecies are rather unique as they came through visions. Ezekiel’s first recorded vision, on what appears to be heaven opening up, is recorded between verses 4 and 28. Ezekiel described in detail what he saw: “a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming metal. And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures” (Ezekiel 1:4-5). Ezekiel continued to describe the heavenly creatures and other objects that he saw in detail. Above all of this was someone Who was in the likeness of a human Who was seated on something that looked like a throne (Ezekiel 1:26). Unlike a human, however, this human-like Person had fire around what appeared to be His waist and had a brightness around him (Ezekiel 1:28). Ezekiel explains what he saw: “Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking” (Ezekiel 1:28 ESV). Heaven opened up and Ezekiel came got a glimpse of heaven and the glory of the Lord. His response to seeing God’s glory was to fall on his face and listen to God speak. In our modern times, many of us read the Bible and believe that the narratives that we read are just things from the past. Some people today view these as made-up stories. Some of us view these accounts as how God used to be in the past, thinking that these things no longer happen. Most of us are raised in homes and taught in schools that teach no longer recognize a spiritual world. The secular world teaches that only things that you can see, touch, feel, or manipulate are real. But the Bible is all about spiritual truths. Paul declares in Ephesians 6:12: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” However, the devil has been hard at work to convince us that our fight is against people. The devil has been hard at work to convince us that spiritual things are not real. Unfortunately, the devil has been enjoying a lot of success. This needs to change. God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit is more real than any other reality in this universe. Everything exists because God, Who is Spirit, created everything. Although we cannot see Him, God is more real than the earth that we stand on. When we experience His glory by reading His Word, our only natural response should be like Ezekiel: We fall on our face and listen. Thank You, Father, for today’s Word. You are the Creator of the Universe and everything that exist and ever existed is because You created them. Although we cannot see You, nothing in the universe that You created is more real than You. Unfortunately, sin, the devil, and the ways of the world corrupted us to no longer view the spiritual realities around us. Father, please work in us! Father, please heal our eyes so we can once again see Your glory. Father, open our hearts so we can not only read Your Word, but also obey it and make it transform us to be more and more like You. Thank You, Father. We love You, Father. In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
