コリント人への手紙第一 1章
“Let the Wisdom of God Rule our Lives”
コリント人への手紙第一は、パウロがコリントの教会に書いた3通の手紙のうちの2通目である。最初の手紙は失われてしまったので存在しない。しかし、第一コリント5章9節には、第一の手紙の前にもう一つの手紙が存在していたことを明らかにしている。
コリントは1世紀のギリシャ最大の都市で、この地域の主要な港湾都市であった。パウロは第二次伝道旅行でそこに教会を建てた。そして、パウロがコリントに植えた教会は、最も混乱し、問題の多い教会の一つとしても知られている。
コリントの教会は、性的不道徳、分裂、誤った教えなどに苦しんでいた。コリント信徒への第一の手紙の後半には、コリントの信徒たちが世の中の知恵に苦しんでいたことも書かれている。
そこでパウロはこう宣言している。「十字架のことばは、滅びる者たちには愚かであっても、救われる私たちには神の力です。「わたしは知恵ある者の知恵を滅ぼし、悟りある者の悟りを消し去る」と書いてあるからです」。(コリント人への手紙 第一 1:18-19, 新改訳2017)
不信仰なギリシャ人にとって、福音は愚かなものであった。知恵の基準は、その人がプラトン哲学やアリストテレス哲学をどれだけ討論できるかで測られていた。高度な教育を受けたギリシャ人にとって、全宇宙の創造主である神が人間として地上に来られ、全人類の罪のために十字架上で死なれたことは、まったくナンセンスなことだったのだ。
しかし、神の生きた言葉は、聖霊の働きによって、あらゆるこの世のイデオロギーを打ち破る力を持っているのである。今日、私たちは古代ギリシャ人と変わらない立場に置かれている。悪魔は、神の真理に反するだけでなく、それを腐敗させるイデオロギーで私たちの心を攻撃することを止めない。
今日、クリスチャンでさえも、多くの人がよくやっていることは、自分自身の個人的、文化的理解を通して神の御言葉を読むということである。私たちの多くは、自分の好きな聖句を選び、嫌いな聖句や同意できない聖句をないがしろにしてしまっている。
しかし、多くの人が気づいていないのは、私たちがすべきことはその逆であるということなのだ。私たちがすべきことは、神の御言葉というレンズを通して、自分自身の信念や価値観を判断することだ。そのためには、神の御言葉を読み続け、従い続けることだ。
神を信じましょう、そうすれば、あとは神がやってくれます。
父なる神さま、今日の御言葉をありがとうございます。あなた、そしてあなただけが真理の創造者です。あなたの御子イエスは道であり、真理であり、いのちです。この方を通してでなければ、誰もあなたのもとに行くことはできません。
イエス‧キリストの福音を信じることによってのみ、私たちはあなたと和解することができるのです。父なる神さま、私たちがまだ心の奥底にしまっている非聖書的なイデオロギーをすべて識別し、拒否することができるようにしてください。
どうかあなたの聖霊が私たちを嘘から清め、あなたの真理に置き換えてくださいますように。

1 Corinthians is the second of three letters that Paul wrote to the Church in Corinth. We do not have the first letter because it was lost. 1 Corinthians 5:9, however, reveals that a letter before 1 Corinthians existed. Corinth was the largest city in 1st Century Greece and a major port city in the region. Paul planted a Church there in his 2nd missionary journey. The Church that Paul planted in Corinth is also known to be one of the most confused and problematic churches. The church in Corinth struggled with sexual immorality, division, and false teaching. We see in the later half of 1 Corinthians 1 that the congregation in Corinthians also struggled with the wisdom of the world. Paul declared: “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’”

To the unbelieving Greeks, the Gospel was foolishness. The standard of wisdom was measured on how well a person could debate his Platonic or Aristotelian philosophies. To the highly educated Greek, God, creator of all the universe, coming to earth as a man and dying on a cross for the sins of all mankind was absolute nonsense. However, the living Word of God, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit has the power to break through every earthly ideology. Today, we find ourselves in a position no different from the ancient Greeks. The devil never stopped attacking our minds with ideologies that not only go against, but also corrupt God’s truth. A common practice that many people, even Christians, do today is to read God’s word through their own personal and cultural understanding. Many of us pick and choose Scripture that we like and neglect those that we do not like or agree with. What many of us do not realize is that what we need to do is the exact opposite. We need to be doing instead is to judge our own beliefs and values through the lens of God’s Word, All of God’s Word. The way to do this is to continue to read and obey God’s Word. Let’s trust God, and He will do the rest.
Thank You, Father, for today’s Word. You, and You alone are the author of truth. Your Son Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to You except through Him. It is only by believing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we can be reconciled with You. Father, please help us to identify and reject all of the unbiblical ideologies that we still keep deep within us. Please have You Holy Spirit cleanse us from the Devi’s lies and replace them with Your truth. Father, let Your will be done in us. Thank You, Father. We love You, Father. In Jesus’ Name we pray, amen.
