“Follow Jesus’ Example”
今日は、ローマ人への手紙15章1節から7節を取り上げましょう。この箇所では、強い信仰者であるパウロが、ローマのクリスチャンたちに、自分より弱い仲間の信仰者にどう接するべきかを指導しています。
パウロは、私たちが信仰において強くなるのは、単に自分を喜ばせるためではないことを明らかにしています。強い者は弱い者を助け、高めなければならないのです。パウロが示す究極の模範はイエスです。
次にパウロは詩篇69篇9節を引用しています。「あなたを嘲る者たちの嘲りが、私に降りかかったからです。」 パウロはこの旧約聖書の箇所を引用して、弱い信者の嘲りが強い者ではなく、イエス自身に降りかかったことを示唆しています。弱い信者が強い信者を攻撃するとき、彼らはイエスを攻撃しているのです。
この事に対するパウロの解決策は驚くべきものです。私たち強い者は、意見の相違や性格の違いを乗り越えて、忍耐しなければなりません。聖書を通して、弱い者と互いに励まし合わなければなりません。私たちの究極の目標は、キリストの体が一つになって、みんなで一緒に主を賛美することです。
パウロが教えていることは、常識に反しています。ご存知のように、私たちは皆、個性が違うので、全員が同意することは不可能です。時には、信者の仲間がとても意地悪になることもあります。私たちは、人からひどい扱いを受けたとき、まず、その人を切り捨てようと考えるかもしれません。信仰が弱い人は、しばしばカッとなって、仲間の信者にひどいことを言うことがあります。
パウロは私たちに、イエスがなさるようにしなさいと教えています。そして、イエスは何をどうなされたのでしょうか。神ご自身であるイエスは、罪人たちと一緒にいるために天から下ってこられました。イエスは彼らと仲良くされました。イエスは彼らを愛されました。そしてイエスは、彼らに神の国の道を説かれました。
多くの人々と違って、イエスがなさらなかったことは、 誰かを嘲ることでした。イエスは決して人を嘲らなかったので、私たちもそうするべきです。私たちは弱いクリスチャンを励まし、助けなければなりません。時には、罵倒される側になることも含まれます。
その理由は、キリストの体における一致です。強い者も弱い者も、私たち全員がキリストのからだの重要な部分なのです。私たちが神を賛美するとき、それは個々ではなく、体全体として賛美するのです。

For today, let’s focus on Romans 15:1-7. In this passage, Paul, a stronger believer, instructs the Roman Christians on how they must treat fellow believers who are weaker than they are. Paul reveals that we do not become strong in our faith to simply please ourselves. Those who are stronger must help those who are weaker and build them up. The ultimate example that Paul offers us is Jesus. Paul then quotes Psalm 69:9: “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.” Paul applies this Old Testament passage by suggesting that the reproach of the weak believers fell not on the strong but on Jesus himself. When weaker believers attack stronger believers, they are attacking Jesus. Paul’s solution is amazing. We, the stronger ones, must persevere through disagreements and personality differences. We must encourage the weaker and each other through Scripture. Our ultimate goal is unity in the body of Christ so we can all praise the Lord together as one.
What Paul teaches goes against common sense. As we all know, because we all have different personalities, it is impossible for all of us to agree with each other. Sometimes, fellow believers can get very mean. When people treat us badly, our first thought may be to simply cut them off. Those who are weaker in the faith often lose their temper and say terrible things to fellow believers. Paul instructs us to do what Jesus would do. And what did Jesus do? Jesus, God himself, came down from heaven to be with sinners. Jesus befriended them. Jesus loved them. And Jesus taught them the ways of the Kingdom of God. Unlike many Christians, what Jesus never did was condemn anyone. Because Jesus never condemned anyone, neither should we. We must encourage and build up weaker Christians. Sometimes, this does include being on the receiving end of abuse. The reason for this is unity in the body of Christ. All of us, strong and weak, are essential parts of the body of Christ. When we praise God, it is not individually but as a whole body that we praise Him.
Thank You, Father, for today’s word. Thank You for reminding us of Your ways. Indeed, things are very different in the Kingdom of God. Thank you for reminding us that our ultimate purpose is to praise You. And to praise You, we must do it as one body. And this included everyone, both strong and weak. Father, please help us to be encouragers and not condemners. Please help us to build up those who are weaker than us and not gossip about them. Father, help us to be more like You. Let Your will be done in our lives. Thank You, Father. We love You, Father. In Jesus' Name, we pray, amen.
